The Metro North CDC was founded in 2001 in the neighborhood surrounding the Gateway Mall, bordered by Main Street on the east, Martin Luther King Expressway on the south, I95 on the west and Trout River on the north. They have served as a facilitator for improvements in the neighborhood including acting as a sponsor for the city-funded Town Center visioning process for Main Street between 21st and 44th Street. They have also worked to connect residents together through Neighborhood Associations and block watch programs.
Their housing focus has been to build or rehabilitate houses for families earning 60 to 80% of the area median income, clean-up and manicuring programs using residents, inmates and outside volunteer groups as well as attracting other resources to the neighborhood.
