SPAR Council
Springfield Preservation and Restoration was founded in 1974 for the purpose of preserving and restoring the architecturally significant homes in the district. In 1987, the area was designated a National Historic District. In 2002, SPAR merged with another community organization, Historic Springfield Community Council, and a new one was established: Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council. SPAR Council’s work over the past several years has moved beyond housing to revitalization of the Main Street and Eighth Street commercial corridors. SPAR helps to organize businesses, developers, commercial property owners, institutions and government to identify and implement activities that will attract new economic vitality into the neighborhood.
